Why do people hate martha

Some of my favorite episodes are with Martha. I like each of them in their own way for what they bring. I am talking about Ten here.

From Amy Pond on, eleven, it seems the companions always controlled the doctor. Though, I like many of those episodes, sometimes the later seasons soured on me due to the companions being in control.

Oh, and Danny Pink. But I fell in love with Martha Jones, more than any other companion including including Doctor Song if you count her as a companion. Martha was just too darn good to be a companion. She was wonderful, whatever she chose to do and went through life being too good for almost anyone else who came along.

She should be a role model for anyone who knew her. Not just her competence or bravery, her adventurousness was what appealed to me so much as I left my home and made a life in a new country, alone, I can empathise somewhat.

Name required. I personally know some men who are a lot like her, and I don't like them any better than I like her. GT3, I don't think the public perception of Martha has much to do with whether she came up the "traditional" way in business.

In general I admire people who are self made, and I certainly don't judge anybody for wanting to rise above poverty. But that's no excuse for outright greed, and it is certainly possible to be a success by helping people not exploiting them. Greed is a personal trait and it really doesn't have much to do with how many actual dollars you have. There are greedy people and there are generous people at all income brackets and in all walks of life.

And aj I didn't know about Martha's history on the stock market. That explains a lot. The magazine was the first I heard of her, and like I said I used to think it was kind of cool, very resourceful.

I just think she got out of hand, as a lot of people do when they smell a lot of money. I hate her because even though she is smiling, and adding zip to her window treatments with dried cranberries and ribbon for a festive holiday look , I know that she is an evil heartless bitch.

It's the eyes! I've heard countless stories of her back stage abusive behavior toward her co-workers slaves.

Of course I don't watch TV and am very selective about what useless information I am subjected to. And if anyone doesn't like it I don't give a toss. Some people thrive on having a person or group to hate.

After all, if they're so bad we must be wonderful. Flame me all you like but I think all this Martha Stewart bashing is from people who like to hate individuals because of some vague image of what they think they represent. As I illuded to in my earlier post this is a sad type of bigotry and it is usually done by people who think they are being good and righteous in the process.

Flame away Because it's easier to criticize someone else's life than it is to make something of your own. Dino, Is it really such a big deal to you that some people don't like Martha Stewart? Or is it the concept of hating someone in general or hating what they represent that makes you uncomfortable? I don't get it. Once again, it's not like anybody's requesting that Martha Stewart be drawn and quartered, or trying to censor what she does.

Some people simply dislike her and judge her values as harmful, and say so. So what? Originally posted by Dan South: Because it's easier to criticize someone else's life than it is to make something of your own.

Or maybe they are kinda assholes, but you hit it off well with them.

That's happened to me on a few occasions. As far as Martha- I like steely reserve, I like cut and dry, I like business mindedness- in this era of wish washy, informal, p. There's a time and place for everything though. With all those mixed drinks and party favors, I bet she could get down with the best of them. And she'll be doing a show about roasting nuts Make sure your nuts are well oiled before heating them up. You can have your nuts salty, or sweet, etc. I wasn't too sure about her, but underneath that image is a rock 'n roll party animal.

This is particularly true in cases where the object of our disdain has not harmed us in any way, nor threatens to do so. What logical reason is there for hating such a person? Ok, some of you may actually hate Martha Stewart. I think the point of this thread leans more towards dislike, for most of us, not hatred.

As for me, I have a different reason for disliking her. IMO, she exudes a very haughty, I'm-better-than-you attitude. This is not class envy. My grandfather was a state's attorney for New York under Nelson Rockefeller.

He revised the law reference text in his specialty for many years. He argued cases in front of the U. Supreme Court. After his funeral, I was told the following by another resident of the condo where my grandparents lived.

He said he'd worked with his hands all his life. He never was a particualarly intelligent man. Lived simply, saved money, and now could live in a nice place with people of a higher social class. He said my grandfather represented everything he was not. A well educated professional who could expound on any number of subjects with anyone , regardless of their wealth or power.

Yet this man never felt inferior to my grandfather in the many discussions they shared over the years. They were equals in these conversations. I tell you this because, I find it hard to fathom that anyone would say the same of Martha Stewart. That's my opinion, and I truly believe it. I think she is the ambitious power broker others here say she is.

She comes off as a know it all who is dictating necessary rules, to those who believe her projects represent the suburban yuppie lifestyle people of many backgrounds want to emulate here, in the U. She isn't fooling many of us, though.

For another perspective, I urge all of you to examine the life and career of Julia Child. She is an unapologetic free spirit who lived her passion on television for most of her life. She's in her 90's, and still shows more exuberance, more love of life, and passion than I've ever seen from Martha Stewart.

You may disagree. This is what I see when Martha appears on TV. I don't know; I think that when Martha's snacking on her hot buttered nuts, she thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. I also see that she gets a real sense of joy out of refining her recipes and knick knacks. Lee Flier, Would you apply your same standards to Keith Richards? After all he has courted fame and fortune and is filthy rich and is continuing to rake in the big bucks as we speak.

So you might say Keith is an artist and just enjoys his art and that art has value in and of itself so maybe Keith doesn't fall into the greedy category that evil Martha does? Well maybe Martha enjoys her work too. Maybe millions of other people enjoy it as well. Do you know Martha personally? How do you know she isn't just enjoying her craft? Why is Keith a god and Martha a devil? My beef is that this is the easiest form of bigotry.

Hate a person because of what they represent not because you actually know them. It's so much easier to find scapegoats and deal with white hats and black hats than to deal with a world with shades of gray. Let the media tell you who the evil ones are and commence to hate. I also said that I appreciated some of Martha's early efforts and I do believe she probably enjoys her craft to a degree.

However, if you're a public figure you have to accept the fact that people ARE going to judge you based on what you represent. And you DO have a choice in terms of how you represent yourself. I don't base my decisions on who the media tells me to love or hate - please. I base my decisions on Martha's actual work, plus all the normal things people use to gauge a person - what they say, their body language, common sense things like that. Again, who cares? It's not like poor Martha's life is going to be made so miserable and unfair because I don't like her.

It's none of anybody's damn business what my house or yard looks like, but thanks to people like Martha and many others like her who are not famous , there are people who MAKE it their business, and back up their sick fantasies with LAWS.

I see Martha as being representative of a deep sickness in our culture, and since public figures are indeed reflections of culture, they provide a handy way to state one's values: You can say "Oh, I hate the Martha Stewart lifestyle" and most people at least in the U. Just like if somebody says they love John Wayne, I wouldn't think they were actually talking about the person, but what he represents, and that would tell me something about the values of the person who says he loves John Wayne.

Once again I don't see what the big deal is. There are other people whose honor is far more worth defending, and who are far more helpless to defend themselves! Lee Flier, And yet you worship Keith Richards. The lifestyle he spread around was one of a heroin addict who is so rich he can have multiple blood transfusions and keep doing heroin. Perhaps you feel that is good for society. Martha Stewart is a very wealthy woman who makes dumb-looking crap out of acorns and glitter to clutter up your house.

She speaks in a pseudo-calm, psuedo-soothing voice that scares the shit out of me. Although I admire her as much as I hate her. There are things about Martha that I love, and there are things about her that I hate.

Back in the days when I first started watching her on tv, she inspired me to be the best that I could be. On the other hand, she seemed very stiff, and unrelenting. I think that she is a hypocrite. She is always talking about going green and saving the environment.

She wants other to save on their electricity use, and their use of fossile fuels, etc. She is always talking about global warming, and how we should all do our part to save the environment. On her show once, she had a guest on that grew all of her own vegetables.

All the while, Martha has several houses that use electricity, and she has several cars, one being a gas guzzling SUV. She travels all over the world on expensive vacations, flies over tourist attractions in helicoptors, etc.

She is always bragging about going somewhere. Her last big adventure that I heard about was her vacation in Japan. She and her rich friends seem to think that they are more entitled to fossile fuels than us common people. I love her energy and her creativity, but I hate her hypocrisy. Another thing that I forgot to mention about Martha and her contributioin to global warming. She has a lot Martha Stewart products that she promotes on her television show.

Most of them are made in China, and transported to the United States. As far as I know, it takes fossile fuels to transport her products to the United States and wherever else they are transported to.

The rest of us will do without so that Martha can make her money selling us products that in the long run, is bad for the environment. Another hypocrisy from Martha Stewart and her daughter Alexis.

But I have seen her show, many times and I dislike her immensely and people who are like her. Are you a person or a doormat?? But it throws a very bad llight on Martha Stewart. As soon as her show comes on I turn the TV off or zapp over to something else. Preserve us from this overbearing, immature show-off!

So many times I wanted to listen to what her guests had to say because it seemed interesting and Martha Stewart just cut them off. It was as if she really wanted to sabotage her own show and make it not worth watching. These people can almost never get a complete sentence or thought across! This so called gracious diva has everything money can buy. However, every time she opens her mouth, the bad breath of self indulgence and privilege is exhaled.

Yea finally, some people who think like me!! Please Martha, this women is so disturbing to me, and for her to just diss Sara Palin, is toatally absurd, do you even hear yourself?

Always cutting the guest off, so rude, and you call yourself a teacher, wow. Of what, ignorance, greed and narcisism? You guys need to get a life.

Do you really think she cares if you like her or not? Seriously I doubt she even gives it a second thought. Can not stand the woman…although I will use the recipes she uses. No one is perfect and she is far far removed from perfect. Kudos to tricycle on bringing up how frequently she interrupts her guests…totally rude. Jealous anyone?
